A night on the town: Guys and Dolls
Looking for a great night out in London this spring? Take the standard ‘dinner and a show’, and give it a retro twist with the classic 1950s Broadway musical Guys & Dolls.
Our MD Mark Wilson recently did just that, and here’s what he had to say…
A smash hit musical in the 1950s (and revived again every decade since, either on Broadway or the West End), Guys and Dolls is a first class reveal show.
To set the mood, go for an early pre-theatre dinner at Joe Allen, an American brasserie in the heart of the Theatre district with a pedigree going back to the 1960s. Be sure to book - this London institution gets very busy, as it is a favourite for pre-theatre dinners.
The food is great and the dimly-lit atmosphere with their live pianist is the perfect start to a night of vibrant glamour and vintage style.
Then head over the road to the Savoy Theatre and enjoy this spirited revival. It’s a real treat, with one classic tune after another, like Luck Be a Lady and Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat. Frank Loesser’s musical arrangement still holds up, getting the whole audience grinning with recognition and delight at each song.
If you loved the film or previous revivals, you’re sure to enjoy this latest glitzy production too.
Guys and Dolls is showing at the Savoy Theatre until 12 March, then at the Phoenix Theatre from 19 March 2016. Book online at http://www.atgtickets.com/shows/guys-and-dolls/
